5 Foods to Eat Every Single Day
These five foods are staples in my pantry and I legitimately eat them every single day. If you can start implementing these five foods every day into your diet, your body will thank you!
EGGS
Okay I seriously love eggs. Eggs are perfect for literally any meal of the day. Hardboiled are great for snacks. Scrambled or over-easy for breakfast. Fried eggs for lunch or dinner. You get the point. I never get sick of eggs and I’m so thankful for these little nuggets of nutrition! Eggs (the yolk-mostly) are super high in healthy fats and protein. They are also a great source of vitamins and minerals like Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, and Folate. If you can eat pasture raised grass fed eggs, even better because of the high Omega 3 content (and Vit A + Vit E). These are more expensive, but if you can afford it I would opt in for those! And no, eating eggs every day will not raise your cholesterol!
SPINACH
Having dark leafy greens every single day is so important to your health. Spinach is a green that is super easy to incorporate into each and every meal. Easy to throw into smoothies, scrambled eggs, salads, sandwiches, etc. It is so rich in so many nutrients including iron, folate, B-vitamins, calcium, magnesium, and others! It is definitely a superfood and one you should try to include each and every day. I always throw it in my smoothies (if not spinach than I use kale) because it is tasteless and still provides all the nutrients! I also try to use spinach in my salads and if I have a sandwich I try to put it on there. You can literally just throw it in anything!
COLLAGEN
Collagen is a very recent addition to my daily routine, and I am LOVING IT. I just posted a Ginger Berry Smoothie recipe a few weeks ago explaining the benefits of collagen. Basically collagen is what makes up your skin and joints. Consuming dietary collagen ensures that your body has enough to continue to make healthy bones and skin (hair and nails too!). I must say, I was a little skeptical at first not believing that this was actually true. I thought it was a marketing scheme to get people to buy more supplements. However, I did some research and there are actual studies that show athletes who consumed collagen experienced less pain in their joints- thus had better performance. It is tasteless and odorless and in powder form so you can add to smoothies, hot and cold beverages. I add it to my tea (or coffee) in the mornings and I can’t taste it at all. I have also noticed that I am full longer in the morning because of the added protein.
ALMONDS
So these little nuggets of nutrition are PACKED FULL of amazing nutrients for your body. (yes they are high in phytic acid which reduces absorption of iron, zinc, and calcium but there are ways around this) Buying raw almonds and soaking overnight will reduce the phytic acid, which is prohibiting the absorption of some nutrients. So buy raw almonds and soak overnight to get the most out of your almonds. ANYWAYS, almonds are full of healthy fats and protein, helping you feel full and helping you to eat less. These are a great snack if you are in a pinch and starving a few hours after a meal. I usually always have them in my bag to snack on during the workday (cuz we all know sitting in a cubicle for 8 hours a day makes you hungry!) I buy them raw and roast them myself in the oven for 15 minutes at 350 degrees! You can also have almonds in the form of almond milk- I just recommend making your own or getting a good quality brand!
COCONUT
Coconut oil is super controversial in the nutrition world, but much research is being done and is showing that consuming saturated fat from coconuts is actually beneficial, not harmful. Saturated fat in coconuts are in the form of medium chain triglycerides (you may have heard the term MCT). These fats get digested differently than others and can be used for energy almost right away. Coconut oil can help you to eat less because the fat content will keep you full longer. Coconut oil is a great oil to use when sautéing vegetables or really just cooking anything in general. You can also eat coconut in different forms than oil and it has the same health benefits! You can also use it on your skin as a moisturizer and use it as a mouthwash! One thing to mention is to get organic virgin coconut oil, not the refined stuff!!
So these are five foods that I eat every.single.day. If you start to eat these foods without changing anything else in your diet, your body will thank you.
