Homemade Elderberry Syrup

We all need to be thinking about how to boost our immune system right now. We may not be able to avoid getting sick, but we can try. We can also boost our immune systems so that when we get sick, our body is able to do what it is supposed to do and fight it off! This is one of the ways that I boost my immune system in the winter months… especially this year!

I got this recipe from Wellness Mama and just added an extra ingredient for taste!

It’s super easy when you use an instant pot. If you do not have one, that is okay! You can also use the stove top. It just takes a bit longer!

Here is the recipe (adapted from Wellness Mama):

  • 3½ cups water
  • 2/3 cup dried elderberries (or 1 1/3 cups fresh or frozen)
  • 2 TBSP ginger (grated)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • 2 sticks of cinnamon (for extra flavor)
  • 1 cup raw honey

Put all ingredients except honey in instant pot, close the lid, and set manually for 9 minutes on high. Vent and strain. When cooled to room temperature, you can stir in the honey. (If stove stop, cook for 45 min-1 hr)

Standard dose is ½ – 1 teaspoon for kids and ½ – 1 tablespoon for adults. If the flu does strike, take the normal dose every 2-3 hours instead of once a day until symptoms disappear.

My family is starting to take this every single day!! It makes a huge difference. You can double this recipe as well so that it lasts longer! This is also a great gift idea this year!! I use these glass bottles to store in the fridge!
